CANADIAN PROFESSIONAL MOVER COURSE

Le cours des déménageurs professionnels du Canada

On March 27, many of you received an email or a fax with the above title. There is no English version of this message. CAM is currently evaluating the demand for its Canadian Professional Movers course in French. We asked members and non-members in Quebec and areas where informed customer-service in French might be a competitive advantage if they would commit to enrolling their staff members in a French version of the course. So far, we have not been flooded with responses. We will translate the course if demand warrants it.

There’s still time for your staff to take the course before you begin summer operations. Register them now.

A New Website

On May 1, 2007, we will be moving the course to a new website at Dalhousie University. All users of the course will be notified of their new user names and passwords.

CAM EVENT SCHEDULE — IT’S TIME TO MARK YOUR CALENDARS!

We have scheduled our golf tournaments and annual conference for 2007:

  • June 8 – CAM’s BC golf tournament in Vancouver
  • June 11 – CAM’s Alberta golf tournament in Red Deer
  • September 17 – CAM’s annual golf tournament in Toronto at a new venue
  • December 3 and 4 – CAM’s 2007 annual conference – We’ve returned to our old format of a two-day conference.

THE CANADIAN MOVER

The Canadian Mover, CAM’s directory and magazine, is being assembled now. Ads are being sold, stories are being written and data are being collected and updated.

  • Please review your listing in the fall 2006 issue or online, and update it. Many members do not take full advantage of the marketing opportunity of showing their listing of services and service area. This is also the information that consumers see on our website.
  • Advertise in the magazine. It’s the only publication that reaches Canada’s movers.
  • Watch for your copy in early June.

INTERNATIONAL MEMBERS’ RATE CARDS

The offer is still open (and will remain so) for international members to publish their rate cards on CAM’s website. Should you wish to do so, please send us your rate card and we’ll post it to the “members only” area of the website.

WEBSITE – RECIPROCAL LINKS

We still need your help! (And you need ours!) Most Internet search engines rank websites by the number of links to them. Place a link on your website to CAM (www.mover.net). Post a CAM logo, too. Contact us and we’ll send you a CAM logo file with all the items you’ll need. This can only increase traffic to our websites and increase consumer awareness.

SUMMER JOBS

CAM has advertised for student résumés and sent out those we’ve received to members. We will continue to do so as they arrive.

ACTIVITY

In March, CAM’s national office made 133 referrals to members, responded to 151 enquiries and handled 14 complaints. We had 14,332 visits to our website by 4,993 visitors.

PAUL KENWOOD

Paul Kenwood passed away on March 15, 2007. He established Kenwood Moving and Storage in Montreal and served as president of Allied Van Lines during the 1960s. Paul chaired many van-line, industry and agent committees and was instrumental in creating the foundation of the van-line and agent policies and procedures that remain in use today. His children serve in the moving industry today.
