Seasons Greetings

Mover’s Edge, December 23, 2009

Holiday Season

The directors and staff of the Canadian Association of Movers wish you, your staff and your families a happy holiday and a successful and prosperous new year. We look forward to working with you in 2010.

CAM Office Closing

CAM’s offices will close at noon on December 24 and reopen at 9:00 am on Monday, January 4, 2010. There will be limited response to email and voice mail.

CAM’s Prospects and Programs for 2010

CAM is looking forward to a great year in 2010. With our new committees in place, we will be able to deliver increased value to members:

  • Development of an online move referral system
  • Implementation of a consumer coupon flyer program
  • Additional upgrades to our training programs
  • Continuation of our conference-call seminar program
  • Establishment of a Profit Enhancement Group

Watch for announcements in January as we start to roll out programs that members can use to become more competitive.

Job Postings

Two new Toronto-area jobs ads (an HHG Moving Consultant and a Claims Analyst) have been posted to the CAM website.

CAM Committees

CAM established four new committees at its Annual General Meeting in November and one at its board of directors conference call in December:

  • Education
  • Conference
  • Government & Consumer relations
  • International movers
  • Membership

There are still a few openings for volunteers on some of the committees. We promise to use your time and your input effectively. Contact the CAM office for details.

Membership Validations

In the past, new members have been approved by CAM’s board of directors. We have begun a program now where prospective members are also validated by local members. You may see a request for information as we get applications. All information received will be treated confidentially.

New Members

In the fourth quarter of 2009, CAM welcomed eight new members:

  • Action Moving, Edmonton, Alberta
  • Campbell Bros. Movers Ltd., London, Ontario
  • Ferguson Moving & Storage Ltd., North Vancouver, British Columbia
  • I-Care Office Solutions, Edmonton, Alberta
  • Lamb 2000 Inc., Mississauga, Ontario
  • Two Men and a Truck – Etobicoke, Toronto, Ontario
  • Farrex Freight Systems Ltd., Richmond, British Columbia
  • Alliance Relocation Services, Inc., Fayetteville, New York, USA (Supplier)

Profit Enhancement Group

For 20 years, Management Growth Institute (MGI) has been hosting Profit Enhancement Groups through its association with the American Moving and Storage Association (AMSA). Each Profit Enhancement Group brings together eight to ten moving company CEOs to investigate, collaborate, discover and recommend ways for group members to increase their profits. Based on this experience, MGI proposes creating a Canadian Association of Movers’ Profit Enhancement Group and invites you to explore the possibilities through CAM.

Several CAM members have expressed interest already. Our plan is to build a group in 2010 so that MGI can hold the first meeting in the late spring.

Would you like to be the first host so that we can get the group launched? Please contact Kathi Barry Albertini 585-461-1353 and she will provide additional information.
