Mover’s Edge, March 17, 2009

HAPPY ST. PATRICK’S DAY

CAM Activities

CAM has been working on a number of projects that you should know about. All are intended to improve your competitiveness in today’s troubled marketplace. Each project can provide you with incremental benefits.

The Canadian Mover

In mid-April, CAM will publish the Spring 2009 issue of The Canadian Mover, our magazine and directory. Please ensure your listings are up to date. Check out your information on our website to ensure we have the latest information on your company. Let us know ASAP if there are changes to be made.

Advertising opportunities are still available. This is Canada’s only moving publication and your chance to reach the whole of the Canadian moving industry. You can advertise moving services, moving equipment and supplies, insurance, vehicle rentals, maintenance and fuel supplies – anything and everything a mover needs.

And if your membership is not current, now would be a good time to update it to ensure you are included.

2008 Alberta Consumer Champion Award

Award of Merit (Business/Industry): Canadian Association of Movers – Certified Canadian Mover™ program provides consumers with referrals to reputable household movers.

Migration Study

We have completed CAM’s migration study and posted it to our website in the Members Only area (pdf). It provides you with an understanding of the major traffic lanes for Canadian moves and the major origins and destinations of those moves.

Conference Call Seminars

Following up on our very successful Do Not Call List conference call seminar, we have scheduled two seminars – one on Warehouse Law and the other on Insurance – for April 7 and 16 respectively.

CAM’s Compensation Survey

CAM’s compensation survey for 2008 was completed a week ago and the results from 62 respondents were distributed. With greater coverage this year, we were able to provide more and better information on geographic areas across Canada. Copies are available through the CAM office at the fee listed on the survey.

CAM’s Online Presence

CAM’s online presence is being improved through a number of avenues:

  • SEARCH ENGINES – CAM has contracted to be a sponsored link on the first search page of Google, MSN and Yahoo for some moving searches. This should give you more referrals from our website and advise consumers that CAM members are professional and reputable.

  • FRAUDCAST.CA – This is a new website sponsored by FraudSquad.tv and Capital One (the credit-card folks). The site advises consumers on finding a supplier across a large number of industries and some of the pitfalls involved. CAM has exchanged links with this group and their logo and a link can be seen on our website on both the consumer and mover webpages.

  • casaGURU.com – This is a home-services referral website offering free listings to CAM members. casaGURU is offering these listings to CAM members only in order to ensure they have reputable movers on their site.

  • CAM CONSUMER QUIZ – Try our consumer quiz online.

CAM’s Online Job Listings

In the past week, we have posted 300 job applications for drivers, clerical and helper staff. We have another 700 waiting to be processed, so check back frequently. The data is organized by postal code so you can find employees who live close to your operations. Members Only
