The Canadian Association of Movers is able to provide services and information to our members and the general public with the help of our volunteer committees. Our committees usually meet by teleconference between September and April. If you are a CAM Member and are interested in joining a committee, please contact admin[at]mover.net.
The executive committee is made up of the Chair, Vice-Chair, Secretary/Treasurer, Past Chair and the President of the Canadian Association of Movers. Executive committee members have many oversight responsibilities including overseeing the daily implementation of board policies and making sure that the board is establishing and maintaining good governance practices.
Since 2001, the Canadian Association of Movers has honoured the best of the best in the Canadian moving industry in November at a banquet to close the annual conference. The awards committee gets together in the summer months to review nominations.
The conference committee meets in December following the annual conference and assists the CAM management with suggestions on topics, speakers and activities associated with the next year’s conference. Often, committee members take on small roles at the conference itself, whether it be assisting at the registration desk, helping out at the podium introducing a nutrition break, or lending a hand at one of the social events. The committee meets during the winter months and then in the Fall.
Composed of movers who provide international relocation services, the international committee meets to discuss global logistics challenges. They communicate with the Canadian Border Services about border and Customs regulations and with the International Association of Movers (IAM) by advising them of updates to IAM’s Canada country guide and other IAM resources.
Marketing is a very large component of CAM’s mandate, whether it be to promote the benefits of joining CAM to movers or providing useful tips and strategies to consumers. Our biggest marketing promotion during the year is May is Moving Month – where CAM partners with the Better Business Bureau to promote the importance of researching a mover to find a trusted and safe service. The committee meets three or four times a year.
Our members are important to us. We strive for a high quality, well-represented and professional member. The membership committee meets monthly either by teleconference or email to review applications and recommend potential members to the Board of Directors. This committee also reviews and recommends updates to our member qualifications, bylaws and general processes as our industry adapts to non-traditional methods of operation.
Composed of our wonderful industry suppliers, this committee is very active and offers suggestions to improve our conference, trade show, golf tournament and promotional opportunities. They also review and approve any supplier application to our Association.
